The Arkansas truck accident attorneys at the Levar Law Injury & Accident Lawyers recognize that there’s no direct or scientific link between the current American truck driver shortageand the occurrence of big rig accidents.
Our accident and injury attorneys see the driver shortage for what it is: One challenge to doing business in the commercial transportation industry.
Here’s another challenge, and one that is certainly linked to the trucker shortage, according to the American Trucking Associations: High driver turnover.
The ATA reported earlier this month that driver turnover is on the rise at large-scale trucking companies. At the same time, driver turnover is decreasing with smaller trucking fleets.
“The increase in the turnover rate at large carriers matches up with what we’ve been hearing anecdotally from fleets,” ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello said in a press release. “…The market for drivers continues to be tight.”
Again, the idea that a particular truck driver is prone to job-hopping doesn’t necessarily make that driver less safe.
But a trucker’s employment history is certainly something that our Arkansas truck accident attorneys will scrutinize after a client has been involved in a wreck with a bus or big rig. If for no other reason, our accident attorneys will want to know whether the truck driver in question might have been working for multiple trucking companies at once, which could contribute to extreme fatigue.
