Despite academic research indicating that car accident fatalities around Little Rock, Arkansas and nationwide may spike due to lower gas prices, newly-compiled research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration actually indicates a year-over-year decline in fatal motor vehicle crashes.
According to the NHTSA’s “Traffic Safety Facts Research Note” released in December 2014, crash accident fatality numbers did an about-face over the last two years and have begun to fall.
Here are some of the other car accident research results from the NHTSA that may be of interest to drivers in and around Little Rock:
- In 2013, there were 1,063 fewer car accident fatalities than the previous year.
- In addition to being fewer car accident deaths overall, the number of those deaths attributed to driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol also decreased.
- The last decade saw a nationwide reduction of nearly 25 percent in car accident fatalities nationwide.
- Although the nationwide average for traffic accident injuries has fluctuated in recent years, this report logged an slight decrease between 2012 and 2013.
