A Wal-mart driver has been charged in a fatal truck accident over the weekend, killing one man and injuring several others, including comedian Tracy Morgan. The accident happened at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday when Morgan’s limo bus was struck by a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Police say the driver of the truck failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead and made an attempt to swerve to avoid the Mercedes limo bus but was unsuccessful. The tractor trailer struck the limo bus from behind, forcing it to rotate and overturn. Four other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no occupants were injured.
New reports indicate that the truck driver was awake for more than 24 consecutive hours before the accident, but it is still unclear if alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the related safety issues. Wal-mart has agreed to take full responsibility if investigations determine that the truck caused the accident.
