New cars and trucks with advanced safety technology and design have translated into fewer people dying in accidents around Little Rock, Arkansas and nationwide, according to a fresh study released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
By pairing up vehicle models with accident statistics from 2009 through 2012, researchers found that car and truck accident deaths have significantly declined in those years.
The study also revealed a list of several car and truck models that can claim zero driver accident deaths. The make and models of those uber-safe cars and trucks are:
- Audi A4 4WD
- Honda Odyssey
- Kia Sorento 2WD
- Lexus RX 350 4WD
- Mercedes-Benz GL-Class 4WD
- Subaru Legacy 4WD
- Toyota Highlander hybrid 4WD
“The complete elimination of traffic deaths is still many decades away, and, along with vehicle improvements, getting there will require changes in road design and public policy that can help protect all road users,” IIHS Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer David Zuby said in a prepared statement about the research results. “Still, the rise in the number of vehicles with zero driver deaths shows what’s possible.”
